ubique: issue 26

Week 7 of school is already here, meaning ubique’s seventh issue of Term 4 has come to greet you all half way through November!

Welcome to Issue 26! Have we started our Christmas countdowns yet? This term went by real quick, it felt like it was just last week we were writing about how surprisingly cool spring was. Forget about the unbearable heat; maybe this year we’ll get a cold Christmas! Something else to be excited about: Taylor Swift’s latest release! What are everyone’s thoughts about it?

A reminder as we move on: if you would like to see the making of ubique articles, or meet new people from all kinds of year levels, come and join our Discord server (https://discord.gg/SRcag9wr) and Google Classroom (64qotqk)! Here you can keep up to date with all things ubique and even make suggestions to improve our school magazine. Something else to keep note of: ubique has started to have weekly meetings on Mondays at 1pm! However this Monday will be our last meeting for now as Year 10s end school Week 7, and that means our editorial directors, who are all Year 10s, will be able to run the meetings :( But don’t worry, we’ll be back to our regular scheduling for meeting next year, with more events and surprises… that is if we don’t get dragged back into lockdown next year…

As a majority of the team will not be at school after this week, the editorial directors would like to thank you all on behalf of the team for the overwhelming support and love you have all shown ubique in the past semester, whether that is from home or at school. We’ve only got 3 more weeks until school ends, meaning only 3 more issues for this term, but we hope you’ll be able to enjoy them all the same even if we’re not there at school to celebrate with you. One last surprise is coming, so make sure to keep an eye out for posters at the school and news on our online issues.

And now, presenting the articles of Issue 26:

  • Electra Reid starts us off with a review and analysis of the all-time classic Ghibli film, My Neighbour Totoro. Reading on, you’ll see how heartfelt and warm this movie really was compared to when you watched it as a child.

  • Is UniHigh’s mental health program really effective? Find out as Ajna Lacevic and Yessie explore our school’s Wellbeing System and the underlying problems that lay within it.

  • Another media analysis but this time but… Green Eggs and Ham? Josh(ua) Chuah delves deep into the meaning of the iconic Dr Seuss piece and how it refers to a multitude of humanity’s recurring problems.

  • We then have Lin Guan discussing everything regarding summer for the upcoming season, from long night walks to cultural festivals, all of which are there to help you get really excited about the long-awaited summer!

  • Alex Osborne returns for a profound commentary in relation to love, pain, and all concerning difficulties that come with growing up—take it as a piece of advice from the mouth of a semi-old person.

  • And finally, our dearest Evan Moyle gives us this week’s second Ghibli content, with a review on the romantic movie, Whisper of the Heart. Isn’t Seiji Amasawa just so charming?

That’s all we have in store for you all this week! Links to the articles will be listed below in the table of contents as always; don’t forget to follow us on Instagram (@ubiqueuhs) for weekly updates! Leave us some comments too, hearing from you guys always brings a smile to our faces.

Drink water and stay safe! Happy reading loves <3
