ubique: issue 25

Art credit: seungryul.

As the hot weather comes creeping in, Issue 25 of ubique arrives with it!

How’s everyone dealing with these frustrating climate changes? Gee, Melbourne weather sure is something else. Apart from that, we’re all back at school! Together! Isn’t that fun? Although, there are still different bell times depending on what year level you’re in, so make sure to check Compass to get more information and to stay up to date with all the school news.

A friendly reminder to get vaccinated! If you aren’t fully vaxxed, you’ve got until November 24th to be able to go on a shopping rampage; make sure to spend your money wisely ;)

ubique is currently on the hunt for artists to help create covers for the magazine; using pieces from you guys makes it feel as if, in a way, we’re more connected to one another and Uni High itself, so if you or anyone you know is into art and would like to showcase it (or if you just want to be in on the ubique news and updates), don’t be shy to join our Discord (https://discord.gg/apzrzfUsNT) and Google Classroom (64qotqk). There you can check what goes on as we frantically try to get articles done, make some friends, ask questions and tell us what you think of our issues!

Finally, onto the articles we have for Issue 25!

  • To start us off, Harry Palin reviews the famous Netflix Korean drama Squid Game, which took the film industry by storm. Being the Number 1 show in the 90 countries that Netflix is available in, read to see Harry’s take on this surprising Korean hit.

  • Harrison Sellick is back to debut his new collection of articles in ubique! Titled the “Koorie Kolumn”, this recurring series will explore Aboriginal culture and history, as well as introduce you to some classic Dreamtime stories.

  • Join Annelie Edge, as they interview History and Geography teacher, Coach Varns, about their experience and what they do at the Australian Education Union. If you’re questioning what the AEU is at this very moment, read this article to find out more ;)

  • Rory Bochner explores themes of depression and mental health in an emotional essay. If you’re up for a whirlwind of emotions, join Rory on their journey to self-love and acceptance.

  • Ever heard the term “Glow up”? Emily Barito delves into social media’s craze over it and how its double meaning affects today’s beauty standards.

  • Dahli Pestinger captivates in her memoir, ‘Northside,’ where she dives into her memories to recall the Coburg of her childhood, comparing it to the gentrified suburb it is today.

  • And to end Issue 25, we’ve got some “Letters to the Editor" for you guys to read. Written by Terry Xie, Amy Vu and Zoe Wei, see what they have to say about Josh Cavallo, a famous footballer who recently came out as gay, and his impact on them.

And that’s it for this week’s issue! As always, we’ve linked the articles below in the “Table of Contents”; make sure to follow us on Instagram (@ubiqueuhs) for weekly updates on our issues! Remember to leave a comment on your favourite article - we love to hear from you guys!

Make sure to drink lots of water and stay safe by wearing a mask as much as you can! Happy reading!
