First Impressions

What is your name?

William Farrugia

Tell us a little bit about you.

Well I’m 16 years old and have recently moved to North Melbourne, I used to go to St Bernards High School in Essendon, which is an all boys school and has a rather different environment to this school. I like to read a lot and like to debate rather contentious issues. I currently work in retail and have been doing so for a while.

When did you first start in this school?

I started on the first of February.

Is there a reason why you chose this school?

I chose to come to this school because I knew it was held in high regard and is rather different from any other school I’d been to in the past.

What do you think about this school?

Look, I’d say it’s quite different from past schools that I’ve been to and is very relaxed particularly when it comes to uniforms because they don’t have one which is surprising to me.

I think that it’s very good, although some parts of the school need to be renovated as some facilities can be quite redundant.

The biggest thing to me is the enviroment as it is a co-ed school as I went to an all boys school previously it’s very different from anything I’ve seen before. The environment is much more relaxed and quiet than an all boys school, with lots of people being quite shy which was a major difference to what I previously saw.

One of the most striking things to me as well was how left leaning this school is and how radically different it is to a catholic school, particularly the fact they don’t teach religion.

Which subjects do you enjoy the most?

I quite like Warfare and Resistance, Business management, Writing, editing and publishing (WEP), and Science.

Who is your favourite teacher so far?

I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite teacher, but I do like Mr Bickham and Ms Costelloe.

What do you think about Unihigh’s infrastructure?

As a person who previously came from a rather than big school, I’d say that Uni high is rather small school in comparison to it, and everything is almost on top of each other, but the spaces are utilized well and facilities are alright. Although the maps are quite confusing and the rooms are quite confusing as there

What happened during your time in school that you find interesting?

The fire alarm went off and the whole school had to be evacuated, this surprised me as I never thought anyone would be that brazen to falsy set off the alarm.

William Farrugia: a new student’s perspective at UniHigh

William is a 16 year-old student who recently joined the ranks of The University High School, also known as UniHigh. As a new student , William’s perspective on the school is unique, having previously attended an all-boys catholic school in Essendon. In this article, we will delve into William's experience at UniHigh, his thoughts on the school, and what he thinks sets it apart from the other schools.

First Impressions:

When asked about his first impressions of UniHigh, William described it as a relaxed school with a different environment compared to his previous schools. He was surprised to learn that UniHigh does not have a uniform policy, and noted that some facilities could use renovation. However, he expressed that the school is held in high regard.

Subject Preferences

William enjoys a range of subjects at UniHigh, including Warfare and Resistance, Business Management, Writing, Editing, and Publishing (WEP), and Science. It's interesting to note that the subjects he mentioned are diverse, with both humanities and science subjects included. This shows that UniHigh caters to students with a range of interests and passions.

Teaching approach

When asked about the teaching approach at UniHigh, William mentioned two teachers that he likes; Mr. Bickham and Ms. Costelloe. This suggests that teachers at UniHigh are dedicated to fostering positive relationships with students, which is important in creating a supportive learning environment.

Infrastructure and Facilities

As a new student, William found UniHigh's infrastructure to be quite different from his previous school. He noted that the school is relatively small, with facilities that are well-utilised, though some areas could use renovation. He also found the maps and room numbers confusing, which is understandable for a new student.

Fire Alarm Incident

One interesting experience that William shared was the false fire alarm that went off during school hours, this incident surprised him as he did not expect anyone to be brave enough to set off the alarm. It’s a reminder that unexpected incidents can happen at any school, and that safety procedures are important to ensure that everyone stays safe.

In conclusion, William's experience at UniHigh provides a unique perspective on the school. His observations about the school's relaxed environment, diverse subjects, supportive teachers, and infrastructure are valuable insights that can help students and parents in their decision-making process. As a new student, William's positive outlook on UniHigh is a testament to the school's reputation and its ability to welcome new students into its community.
