Cupid’s Crime: The Valentine’s Day Heist

BY JUSTIN NGUYEN AND NHIEN NGUYEN

A theft took place on 14 February in the SRC storeroom with consumer goods and supplies missing, staff have yet to discover the culprit of the crime.

The SRC storage room. The Sprite and Coca-Cola were spared

On Valentine's Day, a day meant for expressing love and affection, Uni High experienced a devastating loss. Up to a hundred dollars worth of stock was stolen from the SRC storeroom. Missing stock included cans of drinks and UHS-branded water bottles. The incident has left many staff and students in utter turmoil, and a lingering question on everyone’s mind is: “Who did it?”

Between the 14th and 15th of February, stock valued at around a hundred dollars was stolen from the SRC storeroom adjacent to the school’s canteen. The stock was to be sold by student volunteers and staff during school events like the Athletics Day, to raise money for charities, namely the Sadaqa Welfare Fund’s Yemen Appeal and the Red Cross’ Turkiye-Syria Earthquake Appeals.

SRC representative, Simon, shows his disapproval to the theft.

Expectedly, this incident has left confusion and outrage school-wide. “I really didn’t expect there to be anybody that would steal in this school” expressed Simon Pham, the year ten Student Representative. Simon adds that the location of the storeroom has been fairly hidden from students, reporting that “even [he] didn’t know where it was” prior to the event. Furthermore, students of the neighbouring lockers reported seeing “the door [of the storeroom] wide open” during recess, suggesting that the theft may not have happened if more caution was taken to secure the SRC storeroom.

The investigation continues as teachers and other UHS staff dive deep into this ongoing affair, the culprit continuing to remain unknown. Students with any knowledge of the aforementioned theft are advised to contact trusted staff, and/or the student leadership team. The funds gathered from selling these consumer goods would have benefited many deprived people globally who desperately need support, it is at times like these that integrity is highly valued.

Any information about the theft is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and have a nice day.
