SRC NEWSLETTER
Have you been wondering about what SRC has been doing this year? Well, here’s an update about the progress we have made so far.
We have organised protests as part of International Women’s Day and School Strikes4Climate and raised 500+ dollars for the Red Cross’ Ukraine campaign. We have organised University High School’s Cultural Diversity Week and pushed to ensure the inclusion of student voice at the school council and school council sub-committees, and we also helped to organise the SRC election forum.
SRC continues our effort to push for a student voice. We started regular meetings with our principal, Ms Foster, in which we have been discussing key concerns and establishing goals for the future. These have included enhancing toilet sanitation, building bike sheds in our school, improving the quality of both the canteen and locker security because we know that these are key concerns for many students.
Locker crowding is also a major concern for us. Accessing lockers after classes should not be a nightmarish dash. We will start regular meetings with our vice principal, Mr Foster to discuss the renovation of locker spaces in order to unclog hallways and improve our access to lockers.
Moreover, as the canteen contract is up for renewal, SRC is meeting with the canteen owners to represent students in the negotiations. This is essential to bring positive changes suggested by students, such as increasing the variety and quality of the menu while keeping prices down. On that note, we are collaborating with Foodbank Australia to organise a food drive allowing students to donate food to people in need.
SRC is getting ever more inclusive, we are striving for your voices to be heard, and are putting into action tangible plans that ensure our school acts in everyone’s best interest. Remember, we have an open door every Tuesday recess in room 609, everyone is welcome to come share their ideas with us. We want to hear your say about issues such as the school toilets, the canteen, or just about anything else you can think of, and you can always reach out to your year level representatives. We hope you have enjoyed reading this update and we will continue to let you know what SRC is up to.
