Exploring the Subcultures of Uni High

University High School has a long and proud history of providing outstanding educational opportunities to its diverse local community.

Founded in 1910, The University High School has witnessed many students walk through it’s halls and now TUHS boasts an impressive number of 1,700 students currently attending. Principal Ciar Foster is undoubtedly correct in saying that it is home to a highly diverse community and is thus equally diverse in terms of subcultures and individualism. This, however, sparks the question of the existence of a ‘The University High School’ culture. In a school that emphasizes individuality and freedom of thinking, does one singular overarching UniHigh culture exist?

After the lengthy process of investigating the existence of a ‘UniHigh’ culture, the 2021 Writing, Editing, and Publishing class, we have concluded that the answer to the question of ‘Does the University High School have a culture?’ lies somewhere between ‘yes’ and ‘no’. The University High School does not have one overall ‘culture’ but rather the mindset of allowing individualism and free thinking to grow and flourish. The UniHigh banner is one under which a group of cultures are united under, becoming one truly diverse, great—though not without certain setbacks—and welcoming school.
