Galileo Subculture at Uni High
By Tongying Ye
Do you guys have Galileo in year 9? Is it fun? Mr Trent is a Gailieo teacher. He has taught English for four years in another school, and this year is his fourth year teaching Galileo. The aim of Galileo is "an inspiring, but relaxed one - we want to give our students room to think and breathe." Galileo's teacher wants to create an environment where the student feels free to explore their own interests and connect their learning with the wider community. Galileo is quite different from the other class. Students will have 24 sessions every week for Galileo with Mr Sam, Mr matt, Ms Ester. Students do their work revolves around one project of term, it can be challenging for them to stay motivated at the time! Galileo love spending time together as a team, so that really helps as we already have many shared beliefs around teaching (and life!). The first goal is to make a positive relationship with students. The second goal is to pursue their own passions and interests. There are a lot of interesting things that happen in Galileo.
Ms trent said “I would say the most interesting thing is taking students outside of school on regular excursions and camps. It is during these experiences that we see students really grow and further develop their independence.”
