MUSIC OF THE ISSUE
SONG 1
Superstar - Tennis
Dream pop, lo-fi
Tennis is back with a new single, a cover of the song by the carpenters, but with the distinct tennis, more upbeat, beachy vibe. Personally I prefer Tennis’ version and the nice base line, but then again I’m biased so see what you think. They also just had a live, online show which was really great and the audio was surprisingly really good.
Song 2
I Don’t Know You - The Marías
Psychedelic Rock
The Marías is a psychedelic-soul band, that has just put out 2 new songs. I don’t know you is from an E.P., and they are planning to release an album in time for Christmas which is exciting. Their songs have a smooth, jazzy percussion line, with ‘hypnotic guitar riffs’, smooth, velvety vocals and cool horns solos. Their music is a unique fusion of a dream like sound, with jazz, soft vocals, funk and guitar lines.
Song 3
PACK YR ROMANTIC MIND - Stereolab
Avant pop, post rock
This song has a similar vibe to the one above, but is still very different nevertheless. Stereolab is one of the most distinct bands to emerge from the 90s, celebrating music that was on the fringe of being classified as rock, as well as pop. The group’s trademark sound is a hypnotic rhythm, with overlaying vocals often sang in French and guitars. The song that this album is from, Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements, which combined 60’s pop melodies and an art-rock aesthetic as well as jazz and hip-hop beats. A great album to checkout
Song 4
MAC & CHEESE - Rei Ami
Pop
yeah great song. Very family friendly. Great video to gather the whole family around to watch.
Album of the Issue
The Runaways - The Runaways
Hard rock, punk rock
You’ve probably heard their song Cherry Bomb, maybe from Riverdale (hopefully ur not traumatised from that abomination <3 ) The Runaways are literally my favourite band. They paved the way as the first all-female rock band from the 1980’s, that made a substantial impression on the public. Their sound was a heavy American metal with the then new sound of punk rock. Since all of the members were still teenagers when joining (one was 15), some were still learning to play their instruments at the audition for it, the band’s music was frequently quite raw but all of the members are all extremely talented, especially for the music they created at their age. This band got so much hate from male rockstars and producers and they were pretty much bullied by the industry, when they were only kids, however achieved significant fame. They are definitely a band you have to listen to, and the story behind it is also very important. There was a movie made about them in 2014 with Kristan Stewart who actually played the lead role of the band really well.
