CHICAGO: Meet the Cast

Introducing EBONY TUCKER as ROXIE HART

Ebony has loved Musical Theatre since she first saw The Wizard of Oz, a movie she watched weekly growing up. Although the love for music theatre was always present she didn’t begin performing until year 7, when she auditioned for her first musical at her old high school. After a few years of loving her time as an ensemble member, Ebony moved to Uni High in year 10 and featured in ‘Hairspray’ as Amber von Tussle, and last year in ‘Anything Goes’ as Erma. Ebony absolutely adores performing, having played roles such as Maria Rainer in The Sound of Music, Lily St.Regis in Annie and Good/Evil Angel in Uni High’s theatre studies production of ‘Dr.Faustus.’ Ebony is excited to be taking on a dancing role in this musical having never done a lot of dancing and even more excited to be performing in a musical that her mum showed her as a child, and to date she still claims as her first real musical viewing. (Don’t worry, her mum covered her eyes for everything but the songs.) Ebony is so overjoyed for University High school to be presenting such an awesome show and hopes the audience has as much fun watching it as she and the cast have performing it. Being in year 12, Ebony could not be happier than Chicago is the final show she will perform. She however is not excited about the fact that her character experiences every human emotion possible in the first half hour of the show, it’s exhausting just thinking about it!

Do you have any inspiration for the role of Roxie Hart? A few! I love researching characters so I can bring a lot into it. For one the real-life Roxie Hart, Beulah Annan. Also drawing inspiration from 1920s movie stars and different Broadway/Film interpretations of the role. Ultimately, still trying to create my own version of the character but drawing from my favourite and real-life interpretations. I’ve also listened to the original creative team including legend Bob Fosse talk about their ideas for the character of Roxie and have tried to take notice of that.

What can Audiences look forward to? A killer cast! The people I get to do this show with are incredible, the audience is in for a real treat. As well as seeing another interpretation of a Broadway classic!

What is your favourite song in the show? This is a hard question, because I love them all for different reasons. I love Mr. Cellophane, but All That Jazz is an absolute classic. Ultimately, I’d have to say that Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag is my favourite because it makes me unbelievably happy and excited. Kander & Ebb ultimately provided a killer score (pun intended) and I can’t pick any faults!
