Music of the Issue

Recommended music of the August Issue

As currently we are all in lockdown, why not increase your music taste and hopefully find some new artists that you like! With every issue, we will include a list of 4 songs and 1 album of the issue. A lot of them will be ‘underground’ artists that you may not have heard of, in an effort to support new and upcoming artists. Hopefully you like them!!

Song 1

Headaches – Raveena (Soul, blues, pop)

Headaches

Raveena

Off her latest EP, Moonstone, Raveena released 4 new songs, all of them which are magical and beautiful, but Headaches wins this one. Raveena is a soul and R&B singer, who realsed her debut album, Lucid, in 2019 (also one of my favourites). She describes her music as an “complete expression of the self”, creating highly creative, dynamic and meaningful records. I definitely recommend to listen to her with headphones!!

Song 2

Don’t Leave Your Girl – KIRBY (R&B, soul, funk)

Don’t Leave Your Girl

Kirby released her debut album, Sis, in January and DLYG is the closing song of this album, concluding it with taste and jazz. Kirby’s style of music is very unique, mixing soul, R&B, jazz and pop all together with a one of a kind voice. She has written for Beyoncé, Kanye West, Paul McCartney and queen Rihanna. She sparked her career in songwriting by writing a song a day on YouTube for 275 days. She definitely has a bright future, and I can’t wait to see what she creates next.

Song 3

Tú – maye (Versatile music)

Maye

Okay so like this song maybe in another language but that isn’t the point hehe. Having only released 5 singles, Maye is a Spanish singer who is very creative with her writing (that I can’t understand most of the time) and her music creation. Tú describes how one can live all alone and still have a great time without others, something most of us can relate to! The song feels like you are in a city like Paris, and you’re running out of a house at night with that significant other, ready to explore the city.

Song 4

SNOWCONE – REI AMI (Hip-Hop, Rap)

Rei Ami

Snowcone

Ahh this song is good go listen to it now. chill anyways, Rei Ami is a not very well known artist yet and hasn’t put much out but Snowcone and Dictator are some of my favourites. Snowcone starts of really upbeat but then at the middle switches to a more laid back, dreamy pop vibe.

album of the issue

I Disagree – Poppy (Electropop, Alternative)

I Disagree

Okay so I know this is strange, but like I Disagree is actually amazing. You may know Poppy from her days with Titanic Sinclair, when she was putting out mainstream pop music but I promise you after her break up with him, her music is really good. Poppy doesn’t label it as metal but it does definitely have some metal aspects. At first when I listened to the album, I did not like it at all but I promise you her music grows on you. Songs like Bloodmoney feature this, as well as Anything Like Me. If this isn’t your type of style of music, listen to Sick of the Sun and Don’t Go Outside. This album came out this year, but she also just released Khaos x4 (very metally) with a deluxe album coming out August 14th.
