Daisy Jones & The Six (Book)
If you’re on ‘booktok’ I’m sure you have heard of the amazing book titled ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The ‘booktok’ phenomenon, a Tiktok subculture where people discuss about books, was established in 2019 but gained popularity in 2020. During lockdown, I know firsthand how some people decided to pick up reading, and that’s when people discovered ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’. The book is a captivating story about the ups and downs of a 1970s rock band and their infamous breakup. Nobody knows the real reason the band split up… until now.

Daisy Jones is a hopeful singer coming to Los Angeles. She sneaks into clubs on the sunset strip, sleeping with rockstars. All of that but it’s still rock and roll she loves most. People are going to concerts to crush on the latest popular boy bands, but not Daisy. She goes for the music, she feels it in her veins then goes home to make her own. With the dream of music in Daisy’s mind, she opens up.
Another band gaining success is The Six, led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.
Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, two rising stars. They cross paths when their producer realises that on their own they are good, but together they could be great.
Taylor Jenkins Reid chose to write this book in an interview format. Although most people don’t think that it is a nice format to read, everybody comes out saying it was amazing. This book, although it’s fiction, doesn’t feel like it, she brings these band members and characters to life so vividly that at the end of the book you continue asking if they are a real band, and when you discover they aren’t you continue to be in denial about it.
If you want a book with characters and stories that you can connect to, ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ is for you. I believe that, whatever your opinion is of the story, you will fly through this book, and you will fall in love with at least one of the characters.
Run (Movie)
‘Run’ is a movie about a single mother (Diane) and her daughter (Chloe). Chloe is a disabled teen and is kept in isolation due to her many health problems. Even though Chloe and her mother have a close relationship, Chloe soon starts to suspect her mother is keeping secrets from her. “Run” is a thriller and horror and is good for anyone who likes suspenseful movies.
This is a movie for those who love a thrill and a story, if you watch this be ready for a pounding heart.
Gilmore Girls
Gilmore Girls is a seven-season TV show which ran from 2000 to 2007. This series is about a single mother (Lorelai) and her teen daughter (Rory). Lorelai had her daughter when she was 16 with her ex-boyfriend, Christopher. Lorelai and Rory live in the small town of Stars Hollow, with weird and interesting people. Rory is a bright and smart 16-year-old girl who gets into a prep school in the next town called Chilton.
Lorelai and Rory have money but not enough to pay the thousands of dollars of school fees. Lorelai has to ask her detached mother (Emily) for money to help Rory get into Chilton. Emily agrees to fund
Rory’s schooling, on the condition that Rory and Lorelai would have to come over to Emily and Richard’s house (Lorelai’s parents) every Friday. Lorelai agrees reluctantly and a deal is made. Over the next seasons, Rory has multiple love interests including Dean, Jess, and Logan. Lorelai also has many love interests over the next 6 seasons of the series.
If you want a TV show filled with laughs, romance, and amazing references then Gilmore Girls is for you!
