ubique Valentines Day

To start 2022, ubique’s Editorial Team thought long and hard about how we could spread awareness to our small, humble club. Truth be told, ubique has been quite dead for a long time, to the point of no one knowing what we were (we’re our school’s student-run magazine TT) or that we existed (we do). After our slight revival last year, following the past editor’s efforts during lockdown the year before, our team wanted to focus on bringing more attention and love to ubique. Thinking back on all the things we did last year, we remembered the amount of success our Bubble Tea stand generated and an idea hit us… should we do more fundraisers?! Thus, the ubique team planned and hosted a candy and polaroid photo booth stall on both the 14th and 15th of February. So of course, we had to capitalise on not only the booth and the candies, but also the experience. There is nothing that makes Valentine’s Day better than being able to profit off of it ;).

ubique’s Editorial team wanted to slowly introduce more festivities to the Uni High community. One of our very own Junior Editors, Jane, came up with the idea of a polaroid photo booth because she is a (somewhat) hopeless romantic with capitalistic tendencies. The idea was simple; take polaroid pictures of people with a cute background and props (while of course, generating some sort of profit). Even better, she introduced the idea of giving discounts to couples, in hopes that her crush will confess to her and they can get a polaroid together (her crush did not confess). In addition to the polaroids, ubique’s Senior Editor, Pat, and our team hand-packaged each and every individual candy bag with a personalised love prediction.

The success of the Valentine’s Day booth could’ve never been achieved without Uni High’s community’s great support as well as the collaboration and dedication of the ubique team. We are immensely grateful. Because of the shocking turnout for the booth, we have raised over $200 in profits which we will invest in more stalls and booths as well as (possibly) a free festival for everyone to enjoy (it’s still in the works ;D)!

While the stall was operating, our Junior Editors interviewed those in the polaroid booth line, while another took many pictures! Here are some comments from Uni High students as well as some pictures!

“The stall is very good, very nice, very beautiful.”

“Our school isn’t as festive in these small events. Glad that we have this for our last year at Uni High.”

“You guys should have options for Cards/Paypal next time.”
“It is really cute. The Amusic is nice!”
“Next time, do this indoors. It’s too hot!”

“I think it is very nice to spread the love!”

We wish to continue celebrating small events with the University High School’s community. We can not express how thankful we are for all of your love and support, and we’ll continue to work hard to host these types of events more in the future, in hopes that we can receive your kindness once more!
