How Much Does Your Outfit Cost? (Pt. 2)
Written By DK DOAN

Taking inspiration from the Youtuber The Unknown Vlogs’ famous videos, Ubique’s fashion correspondent DK Doan interviewed some students of Uni High when we were back at school the week after lockdown. Unfortunately Victoria is back in lockdown, but this article will have you digging through your closet and planning your post-lockdown fits after you’ve finished reading it ;)
This recurring Ubique article seeks to chronicle the style of Uni High’s students, including where they shop and where they find inspiration. The second edition of this series spotlights the styles of a range of Year 11 and 12 students from different walks of life. Each of their styles demonstrate a combination of comfort and personal style, as both elements must be balanced when choosing what to wear on an average school day. The outfits shown are cohesive and express each student’s identity, whilst also showing a certain trendiness and are emblematic of how many students dress for school at Uni High in 2021.
Peter, Year 12
DK: Talk us through your outfit!
Peter: I got inspired last night [when] I watched Tenet and I saw Robert Pattinson. There was this scene where he was in India, and all his fits were like dishevelled and messy. I was like “Oh, looks pretty cool”, so I looked at my closet and was like “Oh, what do I have?”. I have these pants, they’re super baggy, so I just put [them] on. And then the hoodie cos it’s like really cold. This jacket which I think I bought off this thrift store, which is like $20 or something, super comfy. And then my shoes are just. I don’t know. Adidas or something.
DK: Okay, we’ll go from shoes up. Can you tell us about how much your fit cost?
Peter: Shoes like $50, I’d say? Pants like $20? For the jacket, probably $20 as well. And the hoodie, like $10.
DK: What about your bag? I noticed it was Yohji lowkey…
Peter: Yeah. It’s like, Y-3, which I think was $250.
DK: Does anything else inspire you when you get dressed in the morning?
Peter: Mostly it’s just how do I get as much clothes on me as possible so I can stay warm throughout the day. And then if it’s summer it’s like how do I put on the least amount of clothes. But yeah, that’s pretty much it.
Total Cost: $350

Sienna, Year 12
DK: All right Sienna. Talk us through your fit. How much does your fit cost?
Sienna: Alright, I’m gonna go from bottom to top. So these shoes [are] Windsor Smith, $150, I’m pretty sure. Pants: these were Nina’s (her friend) mum’s pants from Japan.
DK: No way.
Sienna: Yeah. This top says I Love New York - I got it from New York, in New York. It was $20.
DK: USD or AUD?
Sienna: USD GURL! It was a rip off! This jacket was Mila’s (another friend); I bought it off her for $15. Yeah, it’s so cute, very y2k.
Sienna: These rings, this one was from Pandora, it was gifted to me. This one I bought in Africa. This gold chain... I’ve just had it forever, it’s icy. Sunglasses are from AliExpress. They were Andrew’s (so many friends) but they broke so he gave them to me and then bought a new pair, I’m pretty sure they were like $4. Lashes, also AliExpress, like they were 36 cents so yeah, I love it. Yeah that’s about it.
DK: So what inspires you in the morning; do you look up to anyone? Where do you get your inspiration from?
Sienna: I feel like, you know, whatever’s just kinda trendy. I do love a bit of a y2k moment. Just comfy but still with [some] accessories to make it spicy, you know what I mean.
DK: Comfy but cute?
Sienna: Yeah exactly, comfy but cute.
DK: Do you have any people you look up to?
S: To you, to Nina, I don’t know, just like Instagram thots. I don’t know.
