Culture week!
By Esther and Hilary
Culture Week ‘24 has made its way to Unihigh and we could not have hoped for a better one. This year, we had a full week jam packed with activities, all celebrating the rich cultures that make up the halls of the school.
Day 1 and 2 of Culture Week saw henna and face painting stalls during both recess and lunch by the amazingly talented @glamorous._henna on Instagram. We also had country flag face painting and music chosen by our very own students to share their cultural heritage through karaoke and singing!
On Day 3, there was a sausage sizzle organised by YWC for the Democratic Republic of Congo. All money raised was donated to the Caritas Congolese Foundation (https://www.caritas.org.au/donate/emergency-appeals/democratic-republic-of-congo/).
Finally Day 4, the event that everyone had been waiting for: Dress-up Day! From Indian saris to Vietnamese ao dài, the students of Unihigh did NOT disappoint. The vibrant culture of Unihigh shone throughout the day, classrooms flooded with patterns and colours, and more music and performances allowed students to share the best of their heritage with everyone. Of course, we had a runway for students to show off their cultural clothing and parade with their flags with pride, Unihigh style.
And here is a video of that:
A video!
Culture Week ‘24 was an absolute success, all thanks to SRC for planning and making this all possible. What would we do without them?
