WEARING PURPLE FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The school had become a sea of purples and greens, wearing badges of proclamation and eagerness for justice and dignity. Together, our school stood as a symbol of hope for a world free of perpetuated bias, discrimation and stereotypes to create an environment safe for all individuals at our school, in our community and everywhere. Through the combined efforts of many passionate individuals, we have had the wonderful opportunity to hold many inspiring events throughout the school.

 IWD READINGS IN THE LIBRARY

We had the pleasure of sharing our favourite pieces written by women and identifying people, with Heba and Olivia, who together presented “I Still Rise’, a poetic declaration made by Maya Angelou. Not allowing a hateful society to determine her success, Maya Angelou addressed the systemic racism that black people face in the United States, through her poetry.

SCREENING OF ‘HIDDEN FIGURES’

During recess and lunchtime, the Oscar nominated film ‘Hidden Figures’, was displayed for students to appreciate and recognise diversity and people standing up against oppression. The film celebrates the few African-American women who broke out of the West Area Computers building.

IWD GUEST SPEAKERS IN THE PERFORMANCE CENTRE

Together former UniHigh student Deborah Wu, and principal Ciar Foster shared with us inspiring stories about creating empowering and supportive environments for individuals, as well as how women can escape domestic violence.
