The 6th Volume
Hello UHS, Ubique is finally back for term 3 with a new team of writers! Can you believe its already been a semester already? So far, it seems like 2023 has been breezing right past. In this week’s issue, we’d like to introduce the new faces behind the rest of the articles for this year, as well as, introduce some detective work and content from other students around the school! We hope you enjoy Volume 6.
Table of contents :)
Descriptions for each article:
New term; new team. The writers of UBIQUE have switched to a new set of faces and what better way to know them than an official introduction? (Baby photos included).
“You are what you eat"; a famous phrase with some truth behind it. Your diet truly can reflect who you are as a person, physically and mentally. The real question is: does this apply to the canteen? Is the canteen’s menu really what adolescents need to get nutrition for growth? Does it follow government guidelines?
The idea of having CCTV cameras at our school has been a long-debated topic with many pros and cons. Many students feel conflicted; should they sacrifice their rights to privacy in order to achieve a supposedly safer school?
Gossip is a common thing among high schoolers. What better way to entertain yourself than to know the juiciest news about other students and teachers? Although students gossiping is nothing surprising, what do teachers talk about in the staff rooms at lunch? Who knows — maybe they could be talking about you!
The winning piece of the 2022 Kill Your Darlings awards, ‘Sparrows’ by Zaara Khayer is a coming-of-age story about a refugee boy overcoming obstacles and finding their identity. We were proud to see a representative of UniHigh to win the awards and honoured to have it featured on UBIQUE. Have a look; it’s a good read ;)
Not too long ago, the Melbourne Robotics Tournament was held and a team of ambitious UniHigh students entered and we are proud to say, our school didn’t come back empty-handed! Have a read to view their experience and maybe even sign up for next time ;)
For years now, career paths in STEM fields have been dominated by men, leaving women to be prejudiced. The University of Melbourne’s Girl Power Program is a fully funded program for female students from Years 9-12 to promote STEM careers for women and gender equality.
Everybody knows about the phone ban in school – it’s all your teachers talk about, it’s on your compass feed, even talked about in assemblies! But how do teachers feel about these strict guidelines?
And that’s all we have this week! Don’t forget to follow us on Insta (@ubiqueuhs) for updates!
Thank you we hope you have a great week!
