UHS Student Summit

UHS Student Summit

Schools, and particularly high schools, can feel like yourself against the world, where you never seem to be acting, only reacting to events, assignments, interviews and announcements. We seem to have forgotten that our schools are supposed to be supportive places when a student learns because they want to learn, and where their school listens to what they need to learn most effectively.

We have become cynical about the lack of change within Uni High and in a group of 1500+ students, it’s hard to feel as though what you think matters. But it does.

A group of students are in the process of organising the UHS Student Summit, where students will come together to share ideas about how 2020 went, what was good and bad and what can be improved within our school for the future.

For example, maybe we want more student art featured around the school or official sport teams. Maybe we enjoy the split timetable and want to continue using it after COVID-19 is less of a threat. Maybe we want plants in classrooms or more independent learning in classes.

This week, classes across all year levels will complete a short survey to understand what the students of Uni High want to see in the future. These ideas and plans will be discussed in the Summit by the same students who put these ideas forward. Further information about the summit will only be provided to people who say they might attend the summit so make sure to click “Yes” on our survey to join the summit!

General information about the summit will be updated largely through the Summit Instagram page, so make sure to go check that out.

Students deserve a say in how Uni High runs so, on November 26th, our school will begin to change for the better.

This is your chance to change Uni High for the future.

Your voice matters.
