One down. Three to go.

It’s the last day of Term One, and for all of you sitting in class absent-mindedly staring at the walls or resting your heads on the stack of books in front of you, I understand. Everyone - teachers, students and sport teachers alike, are tired, worn-out and really just need some proper sleep. But don’t worry, 2.30pm is coming up super soon, just keep obsessively looking at the clock for the next few hours.

But it’s a pretty exciting day too. For the theatre people out there, the musical cast list is posted! For anyone lucky enough to be involved, start frantically listening to the Anything Goes soundtrack on repeat, and even if you aren’t fortunate enough to be a part of the cast, don’t worry, the crew is desperately looking for enthusiastic individuals to get involved (yes, if you are part of the crew you will still be invited to the after party). Much like a humanities subject you were forced to take because the class you really wanted to take was full, the musical will probably start off pretty boringly; long rehearsals where no one knows what they’re doing and a never-ending battle with the incurable instrumental playback software RehearScore. But never fear, the further you get through the show the better it gets, and musical camp will wholeheartedly be one of the highlights of your year (and, if you’re lucky, you might even get to see Miss O’Cal smile)!

Jokes aside, this term has been a pretty strong start to the year, especially here at Ubique. A new website and a new team of creators has set us on the path to making 2016 even better than 2015, and we’re still hoping that anyone who is keen to join will come along to our meetings. We have a lot of things planned for the months ahead, including the affectionately named ‘Barbequbique’ and hopefully some print editions so that you can read this on expensively-printed paper rather than a computer screen that is probably slowly killing your eyes. Yay, paper! Are you as excited about harming the environment as we are? Shh, don’t tell LEAP.

Just a small thing before term’s out:

The Year 12 Theatre Studies class desperately needs musicians to perform an original score they’ve written for their play ‘The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus’, an awesome play about a guy who sells his soul for 24 years of magical powers. He steals from the Pope and then gets dragged into Hell and tortured for all eternity. The class has put their own unique spin on it, but it has everything from comedy to drama to Monty Python. All instruments are welcome, so if you want to sign up see the sheet on the pin board in the music wing. If you don’t have time however, just contact us here at Ubique and we’ll let the composers know! (It’s not like Kartiya and I are directing this play or have a vested interest or anything…). If you are a teacher reading this (our main fan-base at the moment) it would mean a lot if you could mention this to one or two of your classes today, you’ll be helping the class out a lot.

Stay safe over the holidays, and enjoy your well-earned rest!
