ubique: issue 23

Spooky season has arrived… and so has ubiques 23rd Issue!

Hello helloo, and welcome to ubique’s third issue of Term 4! As October comes to a close, Melbourne’s 6th Lockdown has finally ended… perfectly in time for Halloween! Thanks to restrictions easing, everyone at ubique are so glad to be celebrating it out of lockdown and with our friends and family. What are you thinking of doing for Halloween? Trick-or-treating? A scary movie night? A party on the 31st? The last few months of they year are always so fun - you’ve got Halloween, Christmas and then New Years all wrapped in a wonderful package, so we’re glad that lockdown has finally ended just in time for us all to get our holiday spirits up and running. There’s the unsurvivable heat though… god how painful that stuff is.

Unforunately, ubique has been affected by Covid once again. Quite long ago, when we were all still back at school, ubique had held our ubique Film Competition… but unfortunately due to Covid, we weren’t able to announce the winners on-site. After trying to wait for restrictions to ease, we’ve decided to not delay any further and announce the winners right now… Congratulations to Elliot Broome’s Bic Your Fights! We’ve linked it below for you all the watch, along with 2 other films that were our top picks. Have fun binging them :D

Also a reminder that if you’re interested in the making of ubique issues and want to know what goes on behind the scenes, maybe even voice your opinions on the articles, or just want to make some friends, join our active Discord server (https://discord.gg/FFXmndtY) and Google Classroom (64qotqk). There you can keep up to date with all the ubique releases, join weekly meetings (Mondays at 3:35 PM), voice your opinions on the articles and make some new friends.

Now onto the articles we’ve prepared for Issue 23

  • Get an exclusive insight into Year 8 artist Grace Li’s life and learn about their inspirations, thoughts on art, opinions on the art programs at Uni High and more, with ubique’s very own ‘Artist Profile’.  As the creator and artist behind Issue 23’s issue cover, you’ll be dying to know all about this certain creative.

  • Our dearest editor Margaret Licup is back with another one of her renowned movie reviews - this time read her take on a horror film perfect for this spooky season: Hereditary. If you’re looking for a movie to watch on the 31st with your family and friends at 3am, this is definitely a review to watch out for. DISCLAIMER: Spoilers ahead ;D

  • Another one of our dearest editors, Josh Hill, is also back with another game review. Just in time for Halloween, here he is with his thoughts on the game Carrion. If you’re not much of a movie nerd but you’re into games, check this one out to see if you should play it with your friends from 12 am to 6 am the morning after, right on Halloween night.

  • If you like Halloween but you’re not in it for the gore, Benjamin Morcos has the perfect thing for you. All about one’s journey through self-worth, follow the protagonist in ‘A Child’s Odyssey’ as he travels through the sea and finds himself in the midst of his journey in this short story. Thrilling, engaging and wonderfully-written are just 3 words (maybe 4 ;D) that describe the gorgeous writing in this short story.

  • Ever wondered what’s important about Halloween? Or how it started to begin with? Miranda Burnett is here to provide the answers. Learn all about the origins and traditions of Halloween and how it suddenly became a holiday in Australia.

  • And finally, watch our top picks from the Film Competition!

That’s all there is for Issue 23! Links to all the articles will be listed down below just as usual; make sure to follow us on Instagram (@ubiqueuhs) for more weekly updates and leave some comments. Hearing from you guys makes us really happy!

Drink water and stay safe! See you all soon! And last but not least, Happy Halloween ;D
