ubique: issue 21
Although it’s Week 2 of Term 4, ubique’s first issue of the term, issue 21 is finally out!
How have you guys been? Missed us? After a short break last week, our energy is finally recharged and we’re ready to resume our regularly scheduled programming ;) Unfortunately for the most of us, we’re still learning remotely… but GOOD NEWS! Students will be able to go back on-site soon (to check when go to Compass) and our ubique team is so excited to get back to work on our re-launch… On the topic of going back on site, make sure you go get vaccinated! It’s very, very important to keep our school community, as well as yourself safe and in good condition, so go on - get the jab!
Aside from all this corona farona madness, ubique has been working hard behind the scenes… so we’re proud to announce that our team has expanded! Last week we posted that we were looking for new members to join our editorial team, and were incredibly surprised to see an influx of people applying! Thank you to everyone who had reached out to us; the spots were limited, so if you didn’t get the position this time, our apologies :( But don’t worry, other opportunities will come soon ;) For now, we recommend joining our Google Classroom (64qotqk) and Discord (https://discord.gg/FFXmndtY) to be notified when positions open and get behind the scenes of ubique’s publishing process. And although positions for the editorial team have closed, ubique is still looking for in-house writers and artists, so please feel free to email our editor Margaret (lic0004@unihigh.vic.edu.au) with an example of your work (more information on Google Classroom and Discord). We look forward to seeing the applications :D
Thanks to the help of our new junior editors and designers, new things are coming to ubique, including the new theme you guys are looking at. Do you like it so far :D ? We even opened a Discord server, where we had almost 30 people join the first day after announcing on Google Classroom, so we would like to thank everyone who reads ubique for their overwhelming love and support! Joining our Discord is a great way to be a part of the publishing process and get to know other people who are also passionate about ubique (and more of course), so we recommend joining if you’ve ever wanted to learn how publishing works while meeting amazing new people! And of course, our team would love to get to know you guys behind the screen; if you ever wanted to get to know us, however, keep an eye out next week, because our editor profiles are finally coming ;)
Now onto the articles that are kick starting us into Term 4! This week we have:
A look at the winning pick of the 2021 Year 9 Magazine Competition featured, ready for your eyes to feast upon the aesthetic goodness. All about Art, Social Issues and Fashion, ASF has a wide range of articles that will keep you glued to your screen. How exhilarating~
Jane Le takes us along with her as she dives into the lyrics, themes and concepts of “First Love / Late Spring”, Japanese American artist Mitski’s famous single.
Celebrate spring by sitting down and relaxing to Juehui Law’s and Jane Le’s collection of poems. Exploring the idea of spring, Juehui and Jane encapsulate the feelings of nostalgia and wonder perfectly in their poems, and reminds us why spring is everyone’s favourite season.
Our dear editor Margaret Licup is back with another movie review - this time a bit more serious, but nevertheless still 101% honest. Read her review on one of Miyazaki’s most famous movies and a Studio Ghibli film, 'Ponyo.’
Watch Dahli Pestinger and Belen Strickland Bui as they chat and catch up whilst baking some delicious cakes - and all through Zoom!
And to finish off the issue, we are also finishing publishing the last of the Year 9 Magazines. Once again, thank you to all the Year 9s who participated in this year’s competition and for providing ubique with such amazing work.
That’s all there is for Issue 21! As always, you’ll be able to access the articles down below and make sure to comment! We love hearing from you guys. Also follow us on Instagram @ubiqueuhs to keep up to date with all the updates and when new issues will be released.
Drink water and stay safe; we’re living in some tough times nowadays, but if we stick together, we can get through it!
Happy reading <3
