CHICAGO: Meet the Cast

Introducing ISY BALES as MARY SUNSHINE

Isy has loved music from a very young age, kicking off her involvement in various shows at the beginning of primary school. She aspires to get involved in the performing arts wherever possible; captivated by the energy of the stage and inspired by many of her role models. At Uni High, Isy has participated in every show possible. Her high school musical experience began in year 7 with The Hot Mikado, followed by Tribute in year 8, where she featured as Minnie Riperton, and in year 9 Isy was lucky enough to play Penny in Hairspray. Isy was also a part of Legally Blonde in year 10 and Anything Goes in year 11 as Toots. Isy has also performed for 12 years as a member of the Australian Girls Choir, and was fortunate enough to perform overseas and in many other exciting events such as Carols By Candlelight and for Qantas. She could not be more thrilled to play Mary Sunshine in her final show at Uni High in the hit Chicago, alongsidemany close friends! She hopes the audience leaves looking for a little bit of good in everyone.

Do you have inspiration for the role of Mary Sunshine? Mary Sunshine is a caring, refined, optimistic and positive character, although she is often quite caught up in gossip or in news, sympathising even with those who are guilty. There are many people who share the qualities of Mary Sunshine, such as her her maturity and compassion, who I hope to draw on.

What can audiences look forward to? A vibrant and energetic show filled with hilarious scenes and fabulous dances. Everyone in the cast, band and crew has put in so much work so far; it'll be great to see it all come together on stage!

Do you have a favourite song in the show? Cell block tango. Such a powerful, strong and sassy song, everyone involved in the number loves it. It's mature and precise, hopefully we can bring a level of professionalism and strength to the song. 'Mr Cellophane' is also very funny and a great performance to watch out for!
