Sports Fever: Can you guess UniHigh's Top Passion

Sport; a plethora of variations existing in the world, from soccer and basketball to swimming and martial arts; sets an essential role in students’  freetime whether during breaks at school, or as extracurriculars. BUT, what is the most popular sport for students at our school?

What grade plays the most sport?

Out of the sample,  Year 10’s were the clear winners with 20% of them playing the most sports. Why would this be so? Is it because life is a bit boring when you are in Year 10 without VCE and a nightlife to fill your time? It’s good to see that our Year 10 cohort are filling their time with wholesome pursuits!

What's the most popular sport?

Tennis came in first with 30.5%, coming along with swimming which is 27.1%. And soccer and basketball came in a tie with 22%. Now, why might these sports be the most played sport at UHS? These results would be a surprise to anybody walking around Uni High at lunchtime when basketball and soccer dominate the oval. The popularity of certain sports at UHS can be attributed to a variety of factors. However, the reasons behind the popularity of tennis and swimming within the school's sports culture might be because ‘Individual versus team sports’ While soccer and basketball are undoubtedly team-oriented sports that thrive on collective effort, tennis and swimming are individual endeavors that place self-discipline and personal growth.

How long have they been playing it for?

We got a lot of different responses from people, on how long they’ve been playing for. But there was a student who has been playing for 12 years, a year 11 student who plays both soccer and tennis, which is no small feat. Playing both soccer and tennis showcases their time management skills.
