Unsolved Mysteries of UniHigh: The Missing Door (Part 1)

BY NAOMI MORCOS & MADDIE BECK

This school has many mysteries observable by the intrepid, or perhaps very bored student. Strange webs of passageways, half-seen figures in the shadows, and the demonic pigeons infesting the quad, with intent to kill.  But that is not all that this school is hiding in the shadows. Some of our more observant readers may have noticed that the room commonly referred to as ‘260’ has, until recently, been suffering from the loss of a door. Now, no one knows why the door to this room mysteriously disappeared one day, to be replaced only in the far future, but intrepid Ubique writers such as ourselves will not be deterred from the truth so easily. An anonymous sauce (known henceforth as Tabasco) has provided us with some evidence that we believe has allowed us to crack this case like a darn diddly walnut. Tabasco is in possession of an item we shall call ‘exhibit A’ (seen below), which is the door number for the classroom known as ‘185’. Now, you might ask, where did Tabasco find this exciting spicy new evidence? Well, according to them, it was found in a dark corner of the school, near the music wing. Now, where is the music wing? Well, right next to 260. So, our theory is as follows: a thief, who has a penchant for the room plaques in the new north wing, has stolen the plaque of 185 and ran, however dropped it in their haste to escape. So, wanting to try try again, they decided to go above and beyond, and stole the entire door of 260, before fleeing into the night. So there you have it, if you ever see any missing door plaques, you now know why.

We decided to look into 185. We didn’t know which room it came from, and little did we know, but we were in for a wild ride. We have poured our hearts and souls into this unexpected mystery, and now we present: Looking for 185.

Now, when our anonymous sauce (Tabasco) first found the plaque for 185, they thought it was just another door, not worth mentioning, and simply left it in a secure location for nearly six months; An unbelievable amount of time to keep this rabbit hole hidden, possibly for our own good. Despite the warning signs, we decided to delve deeper into this unsolved mystery of Uni High.

We began with a loop of the 100s to scope out the area. At this point, we were under the impression that it was just another room in the school, just another blank door that we needed to find. Yet, we were completely wrong. Nothing could’ve prepared us for what was about to come. Upon our loop of the 100s, we found that 185 was nowhere in sight. Confused, we did another lap, sure that we had missed something on the way. However, the door did not reveal itself to our inquisitive gazes. By now, we still had not realised the full extent of this case. Our first course of action; to meet with a reliable sauce (Aioli). This sauce was renowned for being a master of directions within the school, and the only way one of us got to class for a few years. Upon invading their classroom and pushing past the teacher, we finally got to them. And we asked the fateful question: ‘Where the hell is 185?’. Even our most reliable of sauces was unable to provide and answer to this question, a shocking revelation. Stunned and betrayed, we trudged gloomily out of the room with our heads hanging low. But we wouldn’t give up on this yet, not when there was a story so close.

After some more investigation (wandering aimlessly around the ground floor of the building and praying), we came up with a plan. We rushed hurriedly to the front office, sweeping all the papers and masks off the desk in our frenzied pursuit of the truth. “Where is 185?!?” We cried, desperate for answers. They said that, if it did, in fact, exist, it would be near 160. We had already walked by 160 about 6 and a half times by now, and knew that 185 was nowhere to be seen around 160. Disheartened, we had reached a dead end, it seemed.

But we are intrepid reporters, not easily swayed by the trials and tribulations of life. What if 185 was not a room that currently existed, but instead one from long ago? And so, we decided to consult a teacher both wise and familiar with this school, one who would most certainly know of any hidden 180’s: Bridget Costelloe. So we raced up to the 300s once more, certain that this would be the breakthrough that we needed. But upon finally reaching her and asking the fateful question, we were found sorely disappointed. Bridget knew nothing of this mysterious room, and we were left once again without a clue. However, we were struck with an epiphany of our next lead. Would this be the one that brought us closer to the anomalous 185?

Many of our more observant readers may have seen Uni High’s maintenance staff, working tirelessly to ensure our school does not fall down around us. And this was our great realisation, which many readers may have already thought of. We needed to ask the people who knew this school like the back of their hand, the people who dedicated their lives to knowing the whereabouts of every hidden detail in this school. So, with both hope and dread inside our hearts, we waited around until we finally spotted one, disappearing into the distance. We ambushed him in the 500s, brimming with questions that begged to be answered. But as we found, he was just as lost as we were. However, he was just as dedicated to the case as us, determined to find the missing door.

However, all was not in vain just yet, for he provided us with the most fruitful clue thus far. He observantly remarked that the back of the plaque’s edges were tinged with blue paint. A specific shade, only used to mark doors that were exposed to the outside air. He wished us good luck, and was eager to know the answer whenever we inevitably found it.  Excited with our new lead, we thanked him profusely, before racing out to do an audit of the outside doors.

But unfortunately, this did not yield us the answers we so desired. Instead, we were left with only more questions. But do not fear, dear readers, for if you thought that the end of this article would be the end of the story, you are very much mistaken. Stay tuned for Unsolved Mysteries of Uni High: The Missing Door Part 2, where we may finally uncover the answers that we seek. With exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes photos, we will try our hardest to find the missing door of 185.
