On Monday 20th of March, The University High School had its 2023 Culture Day. It was a spectacular event, filled with unity and fun, with activities and food samples from cultures all around the world. Even though this was only UniHigh’s second Cultural Day, it is safe to say it was an absolute success.
Overall, UniHigh’s 2023 Culture Day was undeniably a massive success. There was an air of welcoming and acceptance that could only bring the students closer than ever. Uni High is a multicultural school where students feel the freedom to express their traditions and religion. To find this in high school is a gem.
INTERVIEWS ABOUT CULTURE DAY
Each year we will be having a Cultural day at UHS for students and teachers to share their own culture. On the 20th of Mar 2023, we found out everyone enjoyed the cultural day by sharing their cultural costume and friendly/kindly sharing with us about the traditional food and some fun activities they have in their country. We interviewed some year 7- 12 students about their thoughts about this year’s Cultural day.
Are you aware of culture day happening? (for new students)
Yr7: I have no idea. We saw some posters but we didn’t know what would happen on the day, now that we know we are very excited because we didn’t have these days at our primary school.
Are you planning on dressing up? If yes please tell us which culture you are representing.
Yr7: We didn’t know that there will be a culture day so we are not going to dress up but we will for sure next year
Yr8: We are planning on but we are not sure because we knew about this too late. We also didn’t dress up last year so we’re looking forward to this.
Yr9: We will be dressing up for sure because we missed them last year and the year before. We heard that there will be a performance so we thinking of participating
Yr10: We’re thinking about it because it is quite a hazard but would be fun too. But we are very excited about the stalls and dances.
Yr11: We are going to dress up because our teachers told us that there will be a lot of activities and fun.
After the Cultural day was about to end we got a lot of feedback from the students about ‘How do they feel after seeing the performance?’
All Yr students: People were very excited and hyped so it was good because everyone was having fun. Everyone was cheering and I felt very loved but also very nervous because a lot of people were watching. People are respectful and kind though.
During Cultural day everyone enjoyed sharing each other’s countries cultures, and we also had a lot of positive feedback from the students. All of us were looking forward to seeing next year’s Cultural day!
