Year 7 Camp!

By Else Jensen and Tyra Fernandez

Editors note: Looks like nothing’s changed since I was there. Such a good way to start high-school. The real heroes are the teachers who have to survive this every year, though -J

From the 10th to the 21st of February, our year 7s attended camp at Gundiwindi lodge, 90 Lewis Road. Each camp was 3 days and 2 nights long. Triggs went first, next was Coleman, then Johnston, and finally Gulam. This was a great time to make new friends and have new experiences! In this article we will discuss how year 7 camp went, and best of all, we will also be interviewing people from each camp to see some of the great highlights of year 7 camp!

As Triggs went to camp first, suddenly many opinions and thoughts about camp emerged. But as every other sub-school started to go, many different theories were made. Everyone had different opinions on various aspects of camp, such as activities, food, and cabins! There were many different tasks that the year 7s could participate in such as, the giant swing, flying fox, making damper (a type of bread cooked in an open fire), initiatives, low ropes survival skills and archery. However not all camps got to participate in these activities due to the weather. The night activities that year 7s got to be a part of were night walks, bush dancing, campfires, and a movie. At the end of all of these, everyone went to their cabins, going to sleep and getting ready for the new day. Though some sub schools were quite unlucky as they were given quite small cabins, and others got giant ones. Some people didn’t enjoy the food, cabins or activities but overall a lot of people loved this camp.

There were many opinions about year 7 camp, some people had a fantastic time, while others may have been a bit disappointed. This is when we find out exactly what some of us thought!

We will interview one person from each sub-school. There will be 3 questions to answer.

      Questions:

  • Q1: What was your favorite part of camp?

  • Q2: What was your least favorite part of camp? How could it be improved?

  • Q3: What did you miss the most?

Firstly Eryn from 7J2, Johnston. Here what she has to say
