‘Karma’: The Rebrand of Jojo Siwa.

Here’s a great musical critique by some of our in-house ubique writers, Jessie and Sofia. For remaining fans, this might be rough or a good perspective. I personally think this was going to happen sooner or later. Either way, enjoy the article!

Karma’: The Rebrand of Jojo Siwa.

Article by Jessie and Sofia.

Everyone would have heard about childhood star, Jojo Siwa. Whether she was your childhood favourite, or from her new song, it’s no doubt you’ve heard of her. And if you’ve been on the internet recently, she has gone a completely different direction.

Is the song the problem, or is it Jojo Siwa?

Even before her song, ‘Karma’ came out, it had been given a lot of negative reception. And the opinions haven’t changed since. But as bad as it is, everyone can agree that it’s been the only thing stuck in their heads for the last few days. People have also criticized the choreography, making Jojo Siwa look like she just walked into an electric fence. What's more surprising is that the covers of this dance aren’t as bad. The aggressive head-bopping and karate-looking moves are only present when Jojo dances it. Even her choreographer doesn’t dance like that! So that leads to the question: is the song really bad or is it Jojo Siwa?

Karma by Brit Smith

The internet soon discovered that this song was originally recorded by Brit Smith 12 years ago! It was a surprise the song was bad already but the fact that it was re-recorded by someone else was even more of a shock. But as the clips of Britt Smith's version were released people somewhat liked the song. People who listened to Britt Smith's original version preferred it more saying that “her voice suits the song better, it sounds a lot more impactful and mature.” while others commented that Jojo Siwa’s version sounds like a Kidz Bop version of the original.

Before, and after

Conclusion

Now overall, with this sudden change of direction in Jojo Siwa’s career, people are wondering if all of this is just satire! Jojo trying to show off her new ‘bad girl persona’ and ‘music that kids can’t listen to with explicit words’, it’s no wonder people think she’s a try-hard. It’s a total mess, also with a clip of her getting asked who her dream guest on a podcast would be, which just turned out to be a clip giving everyone second-hand embarrassment. But anyway, people soon realised karma bit Jojo when the internet realised that her ‘dramatic change’ was built off of someone else’s creation. Everything about this is very unexpected, just like her career.
