Educational Funding

The way that our school continues running with thousands of students is our funding from the

government. This is also why some of our buildings are falling apart and the school is hugely

overcrowded. Surprisingly, in comparison to other public schools, even ones of our size, we

receive a lot more funding. This begs the question, does the amount of money that a school

receives make the education it offers better?

Private schools have a considerable advantage in this argument because whether or not money

actually improves a school’s educational value, many people still think that it does. In

comparison to the private high school Haileybury, with its four campuses and rowing lake, Uni

High’s campus is small. Haileybury’s secondary school program and Uni high still have almost

the same amount of students, Haileybury having more by a small margin.

Below is a ranking of the ‘best’ schools in victoria

That being said, the opportunities that Uni High students get are really unique. Our possibilities

are significantly more than many others our age because of the administration of our school.

The actual defining factor of a good education is probably supportive teachers and the

opportunity to be taught by them, both of which Uni High has. Another factor of difficulty in

private schools versus public schools, is the cost to attend, or the huge standard that you have

to reach to get a scholarship. While other schools might have more resources, a public school

teaches the same curriculum as a private school without putting a price on education.

In conclusion, there are many varying views on this topic and no definitive answer to whether a

public or private school is better, however, public schools without many resources have been

seen to produce on par or better results than many private equivalents.
