“GOAL” The crowd goes wild!!!

The second we scored a goal against our opposition a feeling of triumph rushed through the courts. Given that most of our team had next to no experience in volleyball, it was amazing to see our ball cascade over the net and bang on the gym floor beside our opponents.

Year 7 Sport Day took place on the 31st of March. Everyone had an amazing time. There were several different sports you could choose from: volleyball, tennis, softball, baseball, and cricket. Volleyball and tennis were the most popular choices, but all the sports were still great! In this article, you can learn more about how volleyball works.

Firstly, many people, including ourselves, all tried out for volleyball a few days prior to Sport Day. The tryouts were quite stressful, but everyone was still trying their best. The atmosphere was filled with determination and hope.

The tryouts were during lunchtime, where coaches would watch everyone play to determine which team they would be on. Some students would be selected to play against other schools competitively, if they won the competition they would make it into district. Others were also chosen to play against other schools non-competitively. However, as there were so many contestants for volleyball, FIVE whole teams stayed in Uni High to play against each other.

When the teams chosen to compete inter-school arrived at the sports grounds, they played a series of games with some breaks in between. If they were successful in these games, they had the opportunity to go to the district competition.

The teams that stayed in UHS played a total of 13 games. There were two courts, meaning that 4 teams would be on at a time. The fifth team was split into two, and it was their job to umpire and score the ongoing games. The contestants had two breaks, as per usual school timing. The day ended early and students were dismissed at around 2:30 pm.

As we left school we waved farewell to our comrades, wishing them well as we departed, until we would face each other again in term 2.
