musical insights

Check out what the students that are participating in the musical are thinking behind the scenes!

- editor’s note

After over half a year of preparations, the musical was finally over with! I asked the lovely performers (including the band) some questions!

(A/N: I forgot to write this article and sent the email like 2 weeks after the musical…)

What inspired you to join the musical?

“I love music and theatre in general. I also had friends doing it so that was another incentive.”

-Madeleine Crozier (Ancestors Ensemble)

When did you start performing? (If at all)

“Personally I started performing at a very young age of around 6 or 7 years old. I began to perform in my country and I am very grateful for the opportunity to continue with that. ”

-Polina Rybachuk (Band, Flute and Alto Sax)

What have you gained from performing in the musical?

“I have worked well with my group, and I gained trust from them. The musical can help improve your communication skills so well. Because of just singing and dancing, and just talking during breaks and practising.”

-Jules-Michael Catanchin (Ancestors Ensemble)

Is there anything that you think is hard about performing?

“No”

-Xiaoqi (Kate) Yin (Band, Keyboard)

What were auditions like for you?

“So scary since I didn’t know any of the teachers”

-Saoirse Corcoran (Ancestors Ensemble)

How much do you practise when you get a new part or a new piece to perform?

“I don't practise. I rely on my (BAD WORD) sight reading skills during rehearsals and as I do more rehearsals I get to sight read the pieces many times and that's how I learned them. (don't do this if you skills is not 100 times better than the required skill for the pieces lmao)”

-Xiaoqi (Kate) Yin (Band, Keyboard)

(A/N: I agree, practising is for people who can’t sight read 🙄)
