Tearful Farewell

By SAGUFTA HAQUE & YUSUF BASER

The halls of UniHigh reverberate with nostalgia as another batch of Year 12 students prepares to spread their wings. The culmination of years of learning, growing, and evolving is evident in their eyes, full of hope, anticipation, and perhaps a hint of apprehension. We surveyed our own Year 12 students and teachers on their perspective regarding the manner.

Students are currently feeling the heat of exams, some summing Year 12 to be stressful. But others, not so much. The drama productions, the surprise quizzes, the tireless sports practices - every memory painted a mosaic of growth, resilience, and discovery. On the academic side of things, many recounted the satisfaction of finally grasping a challenging concept or the pride in a project well-executed. Outside the classrooms, life lessons were learned. The school's nurturing environment provided the foundation for vital lessons in friendship, perseverance and embracing diversity.

Now while many envision the final school year as a torturous whirlwind of stress and challenges, one of our Student respondents  replied to our form with “rewarding, and less stressful than it’s made out to be”. It’s a testament to the supportive nature and environment at UniHigh and the resilience of our students. This perspective highlights the importance of individual experience and suggests that, with the right mindset and resources, we can navigate ourselves through even the most daunting academic years.

Teachers were asked to sum up their experience of this year and it was a universal response of “proud and enjoyable”. Some teachers had the honor of teaching kids they have known since they joined UHS in year 7. For teachers there was a mix of happiness and sadness but also the lingering question as to “what now?”. On behalf of the teachers, we would like to say that they will be feeling your absence very much.

Mr Wong’s memory of a student falling asleep during session 6 and together as a class trying to leave the student there til after the bell. Josh Chuah’s memory of the closing night of the musical. We hope that our Year 12’s enjoyed their time at UHS, and become a collection of memories that will be told for generations to come.

We wave goodbye to our cherished students and the smiles they brought to our school. We will miss you and we wish you luck for the future!
