Reno Rumble: UniHigh's Epic Facelift Unveiled

BY SAGUFTA HAQUE & YUSUF BASER

Hey, have you noticed how our school looks different with all the fences and posters? Walking through the corridors, I sometimes find myself nostalgic, struggling to recall how open and familiar everything once felt. We bet a lot of you are just as curious, so we took it upon ourselves to dive in, gather some intel, and bring the latest updates right to your fingertips.

Now, the 700s? They've been playing hide and seek behind that scaffold, dust, and din for... well, too long!  Three years, if you’re keeping tabs. But who’s counting? Armed with curiosity (and a camera), we ventured as close as caution would allow, capturing some snapshots of what's under that construction cloak.

From the looks of it, the new building might be similar to the 600s. Given all the buzz, we decided it was high time to dig a bit deeper and get some real answers about what's happening. From our little sneak peek, it seems like the updated 700s is going to resemble our good old 600s. The even juicier bit? Rumor has it that it's going to be a haven for all things science. They even asked students to pick some cool pictures for the walls related to Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. But, honestly, the images might make you wonder: What's the end goal? What's going to stand where our old memories once played out? We're on a mission to uncover these answers and more.

We interviewed our principal, Ms Foster, to get insights about the construction progress and the estimated completion date and a couple of other questions.

What is being targeted:
- The refurbishment of the 700s

- Removal/repair of an old chimney on the main building which has become unstable and a safety hazard

Estimated time of completion:
Term 4 this year

Why’s it been a marathon, not a sprint?

At first glance, the refurbishments seem to echo the vibes of our beloved library. Amidst all the whisper and chatter, we felt the pressing need to delve right into the heart of the matter. Blame it on the nitty-gritty of planning – from pinpointing powerpoint placements to navigating the maze of official approvals. “It’s taken the usual amount of time that it would take for a refurbishment project.” , says Principal - Ms. Foster. We might think, ‘Why the wait?’, but hey, there's more to the story than meets our impatient eyes. Patience, young grasshoppers.

With Term 4 as our reno finish line, brighter days (and bigger classrooms) are on the horizon.  And if you're up or the full tea, catch our in-depth chat with Ms. Foster right here. It's a tad long at 8 minutes, but oh-so-worth-it!

So there you have it people. Hopefully it’ll be done by term 4. Fingers crossed. Once these works are done, we’ll be able to breathe properly. Send us your problems about all things UHS construction wise as we send out updates with each issue. Stay tuned for our next upcoming releases!
