Breaking News: This year’s school musical, The Beauty & the Beast, is officially in production!
Love. Hostages. Beauty. Beast.
Let your inner Disney child unleash, through this amazing masterpiece about Belle, a village girl who always has her face in a book, who sacrifices herself to save her aging father from his captor, the Beast.
The never-disappointing school musicals have been going on for almost as long as the school itself. Through these years, the musical has become a key part of University High School’s history. Stunning musicals have been in production at school like The Addams Family and Oliver.
This year, another musical will be showcased at the Clocktower Center in Moonee Ponds on the 15th, 16th, and 17th of August. The tickets for this anticipated show are not available, YET, but when they are, make sure to reserve a spot. You will NOT want to miss this.
Beauty & the Beast is a story about bravery, love, and the importance of being kind no matter how hairy someone is. Set in the 18th century, a young bookworm named Belle, being romantically pursued by the hunky and based xenophobe Gaston, finds that her father has been taken captive by a monster. She goes to rescue him and sacrifices herself in order for her father’s freedom. Thus unfolds the exciting tale of Stockholm Syndrome and bestiality, the slow burn of romance between a beast and a human, the captor and the captee. Belle befriends furniture and cutlery, as she dances and sings her way through this marvelous escapade.
While teachers play a very important part in the production, directing, and choreographing, there is an enormous amount of student involvement. Yes, minors are making musicals now. The backstage crew is filled with students. The costumes are made by students. The hair and makeup is done by students. The actors are students. The orchestra is occupied only by students. The stage managers are students. So we, as students, should support our fellow students in their amazing achievements, we should marvel at their talents in performance. This absolute art is for kids (and also their parents and anyone else you want to bring along), by kids.
